WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF ETHNIC WEAR?

India is a diverse nation that is replete with numerous cultures and social groups. However, they all come together to exhibit their traditional clothing as a homage to their culture. These clothes are unique and have symbolism in every culture.

Ethnic wear can be found in salwar suits, ghagra choli, dhoti, saree, and numerous others. These outfits possess an effortlessness that western clothing cannot match up to. Therefore, one must stay loyal to their ethnic wear because it allows local artisans to create indigenous designs and be employed. Also, it preserves our history for the coming generations to watch.

Traditional clothing must not be restricted to festivals and celebrations but become an intrinsic part of our lives.

TYPES OF INDIAN CLOTHING

  1. Salwar suit

A salwar suit is a three-piece garment that comprises a Kurti, a bottom, and a dupatta. It is optional to wear the dupatta. The salwar is loose-fitting and meant for the bottom half. It gathers around one’s ankles. It appears in numerous fabrics, styles, colors, and patterns.

The contemporary twist of a salwar suit is far more modern than before. In the earlier times, it exuded a traditional look, but that is not the case anymore. Just like you wear a pair of denim and a t-shirt to achieve a casual look, salwar suits are no different. They possess an easy-breezy vibe.

  • Saree

The saree is worn as a nine-yard fabric that radiates beauty and grace. It does not hold any air barriers and has an exquisite feature known as the pallu. Women from different religions have individual draping styles. It typically shows the midriff, giving women unmatched confidence.

Sarees are also an excellent choice for festivities. You can get creative with your blouses and reinvent your saree in sync with your aesthetic. Some people prefer to make a statement and wear their blouses low cut on the back, while others explore with the sleeves. And don’t forget about the different jewelry that compliments sarees.

India is replete with differing saree fabrics, suitable for every occasion. Silk sarees are highly preferred for auspicious occasions, while cotton is worn daily. Chikankari sarees use white threads on a muslin fabric to make their designs. They are typically translucent and carry utmost elegance.

A minute form of applique in the gold thread employed to make women’s clothing in Rajasthan is known as a gota saree. They fasten miniature pieces of ribbon onto the textile with the edges are sewn down to create exorbitant designs.

The most prominently embroidered designs are birds, humans, and animals. Zardosi accommodates a sensuous charm; the Mughals originated this type of embroidery. The product is sewn in gold and silver threads. They soften the metal ingots and press them through perforated steel sheets to derive thin threads.

3) Ghagra choli

A ghagra choli comprises a skirt (ghagra) and choli (Kurti). In the earlier days, women wore Kurtis; however, the fashion paradigm significantly shifted with shorter blouses becoming more popular. As a result, women started donning them in numerous styles, colors and weaves. It is also known as a half saree and is worn as a three-piece garment. In addition, you can pair a dupatta with it along with statement jewelry.

CONCLUSION

These are some of the Indian outfits typically worn on festivities and otherwise.
