You will find that there are very few limits on what you are able to do as a career, as long as you have the right cybersecurity degree under your belt and a little bit of experience to back up your skills as well. 

With that in mind, many of the professionals who go into the field of cybersecurity will be looking for something unique and a lot of fun. They don’t want a typical job; they want to find something that is challenging and cool and will keep them on their feet. With that in mind, here are some of the coolest cyber security careers for you to consider:

Cryptologic Technician

This professional is going to need to operate advanced computing systems in order to collect and then interpret different communication systems. These professionals will be the experts at gathering and then evaluating radar signals through a variety of devices that are at their disposal. 

It is common to work for the U.S. Navy and collaborate with other professionals to help collect and then analyze information that can be difficult to decipher and is often considered sensitive. You need to have a good amount of IT experience to make this happen as well as the ability to maintain classified information and intercept data that is being sent over long distances. 

IT Security Specialist

You can also choose to work at an IT security specialist. This professional is going to have the skills to protect the network and any sensitive data the company has. Their main goal is to help provide a defense for the company against a hacker while also providing easy to use access that is secure for all the employees of the business. 

 The professional will often install and maintain a variety of security tools based on the needs of the company including an authentication system, encrypted devices, antivirus software, and firewalls. They can also train all the employees of a business on the best cybersecurity practices to make sure the whole system and company will be safe. 

 Director of Security

 Cybersecurity professionals can choose to become a Director of Security. This professional is going to be there to help supervise security teams, systems, and various internal protocols and operations. They will be the ones responsible for all areas of security at their employer such as employees, facilities, digital assets, and protection of clients all in one. 

 It is common for this professional to need to perform audits to monitor the security system of the employer and can determine whether it is time to change up some of the security protocols to keep the company and their customers safe. They can also take on other tasks like testing, training, hiring staff, and creating an emergency response plan when necessary. 

 Forensic Analyst

Another career choice for a cybersecurity professional is a forensic analyst. These professionals are going to be the ones who will collect and then evaluate evidence that shows up from a crime scene. They can gather the evidence at the scene of the crime, analyze it in a lab, and come up with the results that others will need. 

 They also have a variety of other responsibilities to do their job well such as:

 

  • Sketching or photographing a crime scene
  • Doing a chemical and a biological evaluation of the evidence
  • Using equipment to look at evidence
  • Working with law enforcement along the way

 You can also spend time in a specialization in the field to make sure that you do something you truly love. If your goal is to work in cybersecurity, you are more likely to spend time gathering evidence on a computer. You could help figure out information about scams, security breaches, identity theft, and online fraud for some of your clients. 

Network Engineer

You can also choose to become a network engineer. This professional is going to implement, upgrade, and monitor the different components of the network for a company. This can include a variety of different components like switches, load balances, connectors, phone systems, and routers. 

 These network engineers will be able to handle the day to day operations of the network while also developing the necessary plans for improving or maintaining the network long-term. Some of the different duties they may have to take on include:

 

  • Troubleshooting some of the major computing issues
  • Installing new hardware
  • Monitoring the software that is in place
  • Monitoring the virus protection applications

 All of these will come together to help the professional protect the system of their employer and make sure that hackers and others are not able to get on and cause a lot of damage to the system or steal valuable information. 

Incident Manager

An incident manager is going to be an IT professional who strives to mitigate the possibility of cyber threats from happening in the first place or will resolve some of the current issues that go on. Incidents in the IT field will refer to any event that can hinder or slow down the normal computing or network operations of the company. 

This professional is going to start by investigating the system and then will document and find proactive solutions for some of the unanticipated IT issues at their company. They will also determine ways to minimize the chances of the issues occurring again in the future. They can develop incident management strategies and limit the risk of problems in the future.
